The best thing about an active ski holiday is the guilt-free eating and drinking. And there’s nothing like a day on the mountain to work up a monstrous appetite… or thirst. Fortunately in Verbier there’s a vast selection of on-mountain eateries and bars, with something to suit every taste. It goes without saying that you should book your table in advance, especially during the high season. We’ve put this go-to list together to help you get the most out of your time in Verbier.

Le Dahu

No doubt one of the most popular dining spots on the slopes. Located between the arrival point of the La Chaux Express and the departure point of the Jumbo for Gentianes, you’re guaranteed breathtaking views of the Combin massif from the large terrace. They serve fabulous pizza among other fare using fresh ingredients and local products. Break Dahu, downstairs, is a self-service restaurant with a crêpe corner and an indoor play area.

La Marlénaz

Something slightly off the beaten track, this gem is great for skiers and for those coming by foot or ski touring. It has exceptional views and a large terrace for slow sun-soaked lunches. This cosy alpine-inspired restaurant is a welcome treat on a cold winter’s evening (you can arrive by snow taxi bring your sleds and head torches for an hilarious descent to Verbier). They serve traditional and international dishes with seasonal ingredients and a fantastic selection of wine.

La Marmotte

A seriously charming restaurant with a warming interior of reclaimed wood and old stone fireplaces. Outside you’ll find a large sunny terrace with exceptional views. Indulge in heartwarming, authentic regional cuisine such as fondues, raclette, röstis and croutes. You can ski or walk here and it’s also accesible by car, so a fantastic option for those who aren’t very mobile.

Cabane Mont Fort

Sitting at 2,457m, sitting beneath the gnarly Bec des Rosses, this rustic cabane is perfect for a quick, hearty lunch in the most glorious panoramic setting. They serve nourishing soups, fondues and sandwiches or go straight to dessert with one of their delectable homemade tarts, brownies or cakes.

Le Mayentzet

A quaint and homely restaurant serving Swiss classics such as fondue and croûte. An ideal rendez-vous point as it’s in a really convenient location, just above the Mayentzet chairlift station. You’ll also find some of the most spectacular views over the valley from their terrace.

Chalet Carlsberg

You’ll have no problem finding this larger than life restaurant and bar located on the run down from Attelas. Specialising in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, they serve delicious thin crust pizzas (you can watch them being prepared) and other tummy-filling meals, catering well to vegetarians. It’s only accessible by ski and if you don’t stop for a meal, it’s worth pulling up for a drink as the sun sets on another day in Verbier.

Chez Dany

Set in the quiet hamlet of Clambin, Chez Dany serves lunch and dinner throughout the winter with a seasonal menu crammed full of fresh and local produce. A meal here feels like being wrapped in a blanket thanks to the warming ambience and friendly staff. Arrive on skis via a fun itinerary run which is good for all but beginner skiers. Walkers can reach the restaurant in 20 minutes from Mèdran. In the evening, opt to arrive by snow taxi and descend by sled.

Sitting on the shoulder between the pistes of Verbier and La Tzoumaz, a restaurant with jaw-dropping views that looks across two valleys not to mention the staggering site of the Combins Massif. A great spot to replenish when exploring the Savoleyres pistes. They serve a range of simple traditional dishes and cater well to vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions.

Le Mouton Noir

On sunny days (of which there’s no shortage), you’ll find the buzz on the largest bar- terrace in Verbier. Get high on the extraordinary panoramas and choose from a drinks menu that includes magnums of Rosé, cold beers and cocktails while music from talented DJ’s seduces you. Ice Cube

The Ice Cube bar is a perfect opener to après ski or for a quiet beer and some people-watching. Conveniently situated just below the Ruinettes lift and is open from 9am to 4.30pm every day. You’ll be warmly greeted by the owner’s shaggy Bernese mountain dog and a roaring log fire when you arrive to this mountain restaurant which overlooks Verbier, from its sunny location under the Savoleyres lift. Le Carrefour

A favourite of many locals and a must for carnivores as they specialise in a variety of meats served on the hot stone. Le Carrefour has a fantastic terrace with superb views over the La Rouge piste making it an idyllic lunch spot on a sunny day. It’s equally satisfying dining inside on a cold winter’s evening. Located at the top of Le Rouge ski lift or access it by the road on your way up to Savoleyres.

Cuckoos Nest

With panoramic views to die for (located at 2,700m) and easy access via the Attelas cable car, this restaurant is a great pick for non-skiers wanting to take in Verbier’s famed views. It’s hard to pass by this vibey restaurant, located at the bottom of the Le Rouge piste, without stopping. And you should stop here. They specialise in brasserie-style lunches with an Asian-influenced menu and there’s plenty of space across two sunny terraces. The “La Luge” bar is renowned for its lively après and they serve amazing cocktails. It’s well worth stopping for lunch at this cosy family-run hut when exploring the wide open pistes of La Tzoumaz.
